Rodolfo Gonzales began his association with Baker Furniture in the early 70’s when his parents, Anita and Ray, worked as master craftsmen in Baker’s Holland, MI plant. His access to the factory floor at such an early age left him with lasting impressions of the craftsmanship, care and quality that went into the making of fine furniture – impressions that continue to influence his design philosophy to this day as well as the brands that the firm offers. Years later, while attending the prestigious Harrington Institute of Interior Design, he interned at Baker’s headquarters in Chicago’s famed Merchandise Mart under the tutelage of then-president, Rachel Kohler and, upon graduation, was elevated to Lead Designer for Baker’s Trade Showrooms in Dania, Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, Seattle and Chicago. He also played a major role in the re-design of Baker’s authorized retail dealers throughout the United States with a focus on creating unique, welcoming environments for the retailers’ clientele.
Gonzales started his own firm, Rodolfo Gonzales Interior Design, in Chicago in the 1990’s and later opened his 1st retail showroom in Raleigh, NC where he fulfilled his dream to become a Baker Furniture Dealer. His desire to be part of the Baker Family was driven by their commitment to quality, attention to craftsmanship and focus on service with an emphasis of creating long lasting relationships with those with whom they work – attributes our firm shares with our clients. Today, the showroom and design studio are located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids – the historic furniture capital of America.
While our business and offerings have grown since those early years, our approach has remained constant – quality and service are our focus – 1st and foremost. Our values influence our designs – each of which is custom-tailored to the highest possible expression of client tastes and preferences, through the continuum of possibilities —from traditional, classic, contemporary, or transitional; right through to and including lines, finishes, textures and premium materials.
